The city has a total area of 5.5 square miles, and some beautiful scenic views of the Hudson along the western border. Such musical illustrious acts as B.B King, Chuck Berry, Randy Newman, and comedians Lewis Black and Jackie Mason have performed at the Paramount in recent years. Across the street from the Paramount is the Peekskill Coffee House, where numerous delicious types of coffee, fountain drinks and pastries are offered while local musical acts aspiring to make it across the street to the Paramount showcase their talents.
At the western border of the City by the Peekskill train station is a beautiful public park on the Hudson River where numerous events are held during the summer months, highlighted by the annual fireworks display on Independence Day organized by the renowned Grucci Brothers.
Peekskill is the original home of former governor George Pataki, who was a mayor of Peekskill from 1981 through 1984, and N.B.A. star Elton Brand, whose uniform hangs proudly in the Peekskill High School gymnasium.
